Theresa Kohlbeck Jakobsen

Theresa Kohlbeck Jakobsen (they/them) is a German creative, who after spending ten years in the noisy party-metropolis Berlin, moved to an archipelago in the centre of the North Atlantic. They exchanged the dirty streets of Germany’s biggest city with the wild, untamed nature of the Faroe Islands.

The challenges of living in another country were a propulsion to their creativity. Right now Theresa is back in Berlin, working for the student magazine STUDENTLIV and finishing her Masters in Nordic Language and Literature at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

After struggling again with alcohol addiction, I created the project @pinkudreyma.welt in July 2020. It helped me deal with the stresses of ongoing recovery and laid out a path into many more years of sobriety.

In the centre: Faroese motives like the Varđi (stone landmark) or the Tjaldursbørkubóndi (spotted heath orchid). Positioned on wood, canvas or paper these symbols of interconnection with nature carry the spectator off into an utopian dreamworld. The artworks compositions are a modern interpretation of a Nebra sky disc. The name is a fusion of Faroese and German, It means little dream world.

I mostly work with mixed media but from time to time a play around with digital art as well. No matter the medium, the message stays the same; Look at the pieces and feel invited to lose yourself in a little daydream.
