Help us redesign The Place gateway!

In collaboration with The Place Community and Activity Centre and our friends at Sherwood Art Week, we are inviting local children to help design our new entrance!

The winning design will be painted onto the gate during Sherwood Art Week; the 28th June to the 6th July 2025. The top 5 runners up will also receive a creative prize. If you would like to take part, please collect or download the free worksheet and get creative! For more info about the competition, please scroll down.

1) Get the free worksheet from Sherwood Stationers, download your own copy or use a blank piece of A4 paper to start your design

2) Be creative! Decorate your gate however you like—draw, paint, or sketch! Don’t forget to include “The Place” in your design and show us what The Place means to our community. Have fun!

3) Write your name, your adult's name, and your adult’s contact info on the back

4) Hand in your artwork to the Sherwood Stationers by 5pm on May 30th, 2025. You can also send a high quality image of your design to thortify@gmail.com

5) All art will be shown on The Place's Facebook page for voting. Every vote matters, so share with your friends and family!

How to enter

Please make sure you have a responsible adult’s permission to enter the competition before you start. This competition is open to children who live or attend school within the Nottingham areas of Sherwood and Carrington.

All designs must include “The Place” and show us what The Place means to our community. You can ask an adult to help you write, but it must be your design.

All entries must be received by 5pm on 30th May 2025. You can drop them off at the Sherwood Stationers or email a high quality image to thortify@gmail.com. Late entries will not be entered into the competition but may still feature in the exhibition.

The winner will be chosen by votes on The Place’s social media. The most popular design will be painted onto the gate by a local artist. If there’s a tie, the Place committee (a group of local volunteers) will decide the winners. The top 5 runners up will also be able to collect their creative prize from Sherwood Stationers during Sherwood Art week.

All entries will be showcased in an exhibition at The Place during Sherwood Art Week.

The gate painting will be carried out by a local, professional artist via commission. The artist will seek to replicate the design as closely as possible to the original, however there may be some necessary adjustments due to the particulars of the gate structure and components. The Place Community and Activity Centre reserve the right to make any changes as deemed necessary in the interest of The Place.

Intellectual property will remain with the young artist (and their responsible adult). However, by submitting artwork to this competition, you and your responsible adult agree to permanently license all copyright rights to The Place (and any artist commissioned by The Place) in order to fulfil the gate redecoration and future maintenance. This includes the use of the design in publicity, media, advertising, film, broadcast and photographs.

Prizes included in this competition cannot be exchanged for any monetary value. You can withdraw your submission at any time until May 30th, 2025. By entering the competition, you give consent for your image to be shared online across various media platforms. If you wish to remain anonymous please write this clearly on the back of your worksheet before submitting.
