Bee Creative
Here is a selection of creative activities brought to you by the Bee Creative group. Many of these activities were explored during the lockdown periods, when we all relied on finding different ways to connect with each other.
Collage Portrait
Making faces is a brilliant way to use up bits of old magazines and newspapers. Spend some time collecting bits to build up your image. You can use features from the faces in magazines to create something realistic or why not try to create something surreal? It may help to start by drawing the outline of your portrait before you glue bits down. Experiment with adding details over the top, either with more collage or by using pens or paint.
Stitch Meditation
You don't have to be skilled at sewing to take up meditative stitching, and you can create something truly beautiful with a bit of imagination. Stitch meditations are created by stitching layers of materials and adding embellishments to create decorative panels.
The thought behind these mindfully stitched pieces is to lose yourself in the process rather than worry about what you are trying to produce. A reminder that the creative process is just as important as the finished article.
Choose a piece of fabric and some complementary threads, play around with different stitches and add extra layers of fabric, buttons or even paper to create your own mindful piece of textile art.
Homemade seedbombs
What better way to absorb yourself into a creative activity than to create seed bombs for your garden, or as gifts for loved ones. You can use different coloured paper and vary the seeds to keep them interesting. Wildflowers are a great choice!
There are different ways to make your own seed bombs, you can use tissue paper, recycled paper or clay compost. Tear the paper into tiny pieces and soak in water overnight until very soft and squidgy.
Mash the paper until it’s gooey and can be shaped through squeezing in your hand or into an ice tray. You can use a blender if you have one to make a smooth paste. Squeeze as much liquid out as you can and poke your seeds into the middle before leaving them to dry. When they are dry they are ready for planting, gifting. Yay!
